Property Taxes

Property Taxes in Texas.  All of Texas has Property Taxes and it is claimed that this is the means to support education.  Texas does NOT have State Income Tax. Depending on your income this can be a huge change in either direction. Texas is a non disclosure state as a few states are as well.  What does this mean, CAD (Central Appraisal Districts) do not have access to Sales information of the MLS (Real Estate Multiple Listings Services).  When  CAD had that access they would use that data to set values.  In years where it is a sellers year that would raise taxes on long time established home owners higher and likewise when it would be a buyers market it could lower values.

El Paso Property Taxes are a point of discussion.  The El Paso CAD when MLS access was removed resorted to using a NY method of appraising (NY is the one of the  highest property tax states in the US) coupled with the standard prescribed methods.  You can protest you taxes every year and it is wise to look at your tax appraisal every year. Opinion only, if it goes up more than 10% protest, if it is higher than you paid for it in the recent years protest it.
